About the Opportunity

We are seeking motivated and creative Interns and Apprentices to join the team at The Avenue Blackbox, Inc. and contribute to the innovative, community-centered productions and programs that define The Avenue. Reporting to project leads and the Founder, interns and apprentices will gain hands-on experience supporting theatre productions, educational programs, and organizational initiatives across areas such as stage management, technical design, marketing, fundraising, and non-profit administration. These paid positions provide practical training, mentorship, and opportunities to develop professional skills in a collaborative arts environment. Internships are open to college students only, while apprenticeships are available to any individual after high school that is passionate about learning and growing within the performing arts. INTERNS/APPRENTICES

Paid Positions | For College & Post-Secondary Students - The Avenue Blackbox, Inc.


Employer: The Avenue Blackbox, Inc.

Reports To: Volunteer Coordinator and Executive Artistic Director when applicable

Type: Part Time, frequent nights/weekends during show periods 

Salary: $0-18/hour (not all internships are paid positions)

Benefits: not eligible

LOCATION & OFFICE: Rochester, NY (in person) 


Are you passionate about theatre, technology, or creative production? Interested in entrepreneurship or learning how a non-profit arts organization operates? Join The Avenue Blackbox, Inc. as an Intern or Apprentice and gain hands-on experience in a vibrant, community-driven performing arts space.


We offer paid opportunities to work alongside experienced artists, educators, and administrators in areas such as:

  • Theatre Production & Stage Management

  • Lighting, Sound, and Technical Design

  • Communications, Marketing, Fundraising, and Non-Profit Management

  • Entrepreneurship & Arts Administration/Operations

At The Avenue Blackbox, interns and apprentices are integral members of our creative team—learning by doing, contributing to real performances and projects, and building valuable professional skills in the arts and beyond.

Qualifications:

  • Interns: Must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or post-secondary program

  • Apprentices: Open to individuals with a strong interest in theatre, production, or non-profit arts management (college enrollment not required)

  • Enthusiasm for learning, collaboration, and community engagement

  • Experienced with or interested in embracing technology and creativity tools

Compensation: Many positions are paid and may be eligible for academic credit depending on your institution’s requirements.
